Another amazing day at the tidepools
We have been having fabulous weather making our tours even better! It has been in the high 70’s and low 80’s. While at the tidepools yesterday we were entertained by a large Sea Lion that was warming up by sticking his flipper out of the water. This is called rafting. Then we saw a very rare Abalone in the tidepools. We do not see many Abalones in the ocean, let alone on a rock out of water. Lucky for us the abalone research team was out and they came and did a rescue. They are very fragile and most now are hemophiliacs. The smallest cut can cause them to bleed to death. So please do not attempt to move one. We let the experts handle it. We also had this little brittle star that looks like a little monster. Another wonderful day of discovery!

Abalone. Chapstick was we had to use to measure it. The brittle star is the lower right hand corner.

This is the head of the abalone.
