Large Hermit Crab
When we have high surf things get pushed up into the tidepools and on to the beach that we don’t normally see. This weekend we have had very high surf from a storm off of New Zealand. These hermit crabs live in deeper water. Since the shells they are living in are so heavy they get rolled up onto the beach and into the tidepools. This guy was trying to pull his shell upright. Finally a wave came in and gave him a little push so he was able to flip the shell upright. The base of the shell was as large as the palm of my hand!
Always peek out to see if it is safe!

Right before the wave flipped the shell upright.
