Allen's Hummingbirds

I have been watching the hummingbirds lately. They are fascinating little birds. The ones I am seeing the most of are the Allen’s hummingbirds. We also have many other types of humming birds including the Rufous hummingbirds. They are very similar in size and coloring and it can be very difficult for a non-expert to tell them apart. The juveniles and females of both are almost impossible to tell apart due to similarities in coloring. Both feed on nectar and small insects. After breeding the female will find a safe place to build a nest and to lay their eggs. The nests are made of grasses and leaves on the outside that are woven together with spider webs. The inside is lined with moss and feathers. They usually have 2 eggs that are tended to by the female till they hatch. If you have ever seen a baby humming bird you know the definition of tiny!
