Sea squirts

Sea squirts are not one of the common sights in the tidepool. They are found all oceans, from the intertidal zone to the deep oceans. Most Sea squirts are permanently attached to the surface they are seen on. They have two siphons on the top of their bodies. One siphon takes in water and the other expels it. The body looks like a sack. The ones that are found in the tidepools feed on debris from dead plants and animals that are filtered through their body. They will contract the siphons when disturbed sending out two streams of water. That action is how they got their name. I am always excited when I spot one!

They are hard to spot as you can see.

Closed down Sea squirt.

This "sea monster" is a Sea squirt that had a reflection giving it "eyes". Squirtzilla!
