Navanax

The Navanax a type of shieldhead sea slug that is vibrantly colored and is most often seen while diving or snorkeling. They can grow to be 8 to 9 inches in length. They are predatory and will eat other sea slugs such as Sea Hares and snails. When threatened they secret a substance that is an irritant to allow them time to get away. They track their prey using chemoreceptors to follow the mucus trails the prey leaves behind as it travels. They also will use the chemoreceptors to track down a mate. This one made a brief stop at the tidepools where I was able to get a few quick shots as the tide came in.
