These bright orange fish are the state marine fish. They are very curious and have no fear of humans. They are protected so humans are to leave them alone. The Garibaldi did not get that memo and will swim right up to you. I have some actually bump into my mask! They live mostly in the kelp forests. But can be seen in water around the tidepools. The male is the solo parent of the young. The male will prepare a nest and wait for a female to lay her eggs there. She then moves on having done her part.  The male will fertilize the eggs and protect them until they hatch in about two weeks. Juveniles have bright blue spots on their orange scales. With their vibrant color they are very easy to spot in the water.
