Signs that are not to be ignored

The “Crab” sign has the “Tidepools Rules” on it. The rules are actually laws that carry hefty fines when broken. Not all the rules are on the signs. Keeping hands, feet and your body out of the tidepools did not make it on the signs yet. On October first this year we will have more marine protected areas and more laws to protect them. The human traffic is a huge burden on the tidepools. Last summer we had 3 million visitors to the tidepools. And while most people mean no harm, we do get people that will blatantly disregard the rules and cause damage. There are docents and educators at the tidepools who work to educate the public about the tidepools and how fragile they are. Please observe the rules and be kind to the people working there. Together we can insure that the tidepools will be there for everyone in the future. The rules are not to take away your enjoyment of the tidepools. They are there to make sure you will always have plenty to see when you return.
