California Moray Eel
Moray eels scare people. But they are misunderstood. With the placement of their eyes on the front of the face they appear to be charging. Like all fish they have no eyelids so they don’t blink. Also they have no gills so the constant movement of their jaws as they suck in water to breathe can look intimidating. They hide in crevices in the rocks to protect their soft bodies. Dolphins, Sea Lions and sharks are known predators. In reality they are shy animals. They would rather flee than attack. They have very sharp teeth and strong jaws designed to hold their prey. They eat octopuses and fish. These Morays are dead. But you get a good idea of what they look like and of the teeth and jaws. I often see them snorkeling.
