Kellet’s Whelk

The Kellet’s Whelk is a large snail that is seen occasionally in the tidepools. The shell has a very distinct pattern of “knobs” on it. The Kellet’s Whelk can get to be about six inches. The snail is a bright yellow with black stripes. What is most likely to be seen is the “foot” as the snail scavenges for food. One cool thing about this snail is it has a very long, flexible proboscis that it uses to find food under the sand or in crevices. The proboscis can be over a foot long!
