Guadalupe fur seal

Little is known about Guadalupe fur seals, because they were hunted almost to extinction before researchers began to study them. They are member of the sea lion family. They have external ear flaps, long front and hind flippers, which they use to "walk" when on land. The adult males reach six feet and weigh about 300 pounds while females grow to four feet and weigh about 100 pounds. They eat squid and fish. They spend most of their time in the open water. This is Marshmallow a juvenile who was rescued and nursed back to health by the Pacific Marine Mammal Center. He was just too cute!
